I think I've met most of the team over the past three years at David Lloyd gym at Gidea Park. They should to walk up and down the indoor pool for strength training 1-2 mornings per week.

Must have been '74, I'm at Robert Clack school in Becontree Heath and at the start of a PE lesson we're told that a Mr Brooking will be taking the lesson for our group. Yep, Sir Trev was having to slum it for some coaching badge or other. Football? No no, it's the summer term so it's athletics - he's going to be 'coaching' us for HIGH JUMP. Bit strange.

I used to clean Mooro's car every Sunday morning. Nothing special in that but not many WHU supporters can claim to have seen the great man in his pyjamas. Very tasteful, light blue with a claret B on the pocket.

What a lovely bloke. Always very polite to a pair of local ragamuffins trying to earn a few bob

It's a not me but.......

I know a few nurses. Not long before he left West Ham Lampard jnr was in hospital for a groin operation. Local private ward. First thing in the morning the ward manager, who I know very well, had to allocate the jobs for the morning, one of which was to shave Lampard's pubes off. As soon as it was announced another nurse, who I happened to also know and that a mate of mine described as a proper dirty cow, insisted she was doing it. So off she went with a razor and a dish. I know for a fact that she kept the pubes! Hahaha!

Newham general hospital in 2008
My mum was having yet another operation for cancer. I went to get refreshments. As I turned into the corridor I met Danny Williamson who was attending to his grandad. We had a chat about his property investments in Cyprus and his injuries. Everton were only interested in claiming insurance. Nice ordinary bloke

Final game at Upton Park - I was standing on the steps of the Church on Green Street watching the Man United coach getting attacked when out of nowhere I was being hugged. I couldn't work out who it was, only that it was a black man. When he stepped back, it was Herita Illunga.

Can I implore people to respect the point of this post.

Strange encounters.

Not everyday encounters.

It's gonna be mucho boring if we get any more "bumped into pottsy in sainsburys" type posts.

Accidentally meeting a minor celebrity is not newsworthy unless said celeb did or said something extraordinary.

you kissed brooking?

i have to say that's quite tame compared to your usual stories, i thought you were about to say you had a 4 way scatfest with them.

Re: Strange encounters with West Ham players
I went to some black tie do at the Dorchester which was a pre world cup 98 lunch with guest speakers and auction etc.
my company at the time were the main sponsors. I was a director and very good friends with the CEO, both of us life long west ham fans, so got to sit at the head table with our invited customers and the guest speakers, who were George cohen, martin peters, Geoff hurst and sir trev.
because it was our table, me and my mate got to arrange where our custys sat, so naturally fucked them and I got sat between Geoff hurst and sir trev while my mate sat between Geoff hurst and martin peters.

after a very long (very boozy) lunch, speeches and auctions, it was time to go.

still sitting, I shook sir trev's hand then lent in and kissed him square on the forehead with the line 'that's for 1980'.

Geoff hurst and peters looked mortified but luckily the great man saw the funny side!

must admit I do cringe now when the story gets retold.

Me and a mate was watching the Ireland v Holland Euro 96 play off in the Golden Lion in Romford, when half the West Ham squad walked in to watch it, Potts, Martin, Dowie etc.

Didn't speak to them but Moncur was constantly singing 'What an atmosphere' by Russ Abbott. Couldn't see that happening with today's squad!

I once bumped into Paul Hilton in Sainsburys, Newbury Park, one afternoon during the late 80's. He was pushing a shopping trolley along through the aisles.

Another occasion was during the mid 90's when Alan Taylor asked me for directions, at Chigwell Row, to the Prince Regent hotel, for one of those reunions they used to hold. He was quite gobsmacked when I recognised him and called him 'Alan' straight away.

Two come to mind, although nothing exciting.

I sat at the opposite table to Teddy Sheringham and his boy at a carvery in Buckhurst Hill in 2004. Teddy was at ours at the time and my brother and Dad we egging me on to say hello, which I refused because I couldn't stand him. Great player though.

Steve Lomas (gets about, dunnhe?) at Holborn Circus looking for Chancery Lane. I'd just jumped off as bus and he'd asked me for directions. It was only post offering directions that I realised that it was him and had a brief chat. A very nice man who was more than happy to indulge a supporter. Funny thing is a mate I worked with from Northern Ireland who absolutely hero worshipped the ground any Norn Iron player walked on was incredibly excited once I'd informed him.

Saw Christian Dailly in Romford as he came out of the gym with a fitness coach, the day before we played Palermo away. I thought 'sod it' and asked him for a picture, which my colleague took. He was really nice and didn't mind at all.

We posed - his arm went round my shoulders, my arm went round his waist - only to find a backpack, so my arm just kind of slipped until my hand was basically on his arse. Where it stayed, while my colleage faffed about with my phone.

Tony Cottee in Eddie Grimstead Honda in Romford. It was the day after we'd lost 3-0 at Newcastle and Les Sealey had had a blinder to keep the score respectable.

- I thought we were unlucky last night Tony.
- No we weren't.
- I mean we were unlucky to play Newcastle on the one night they were any good.

He didn't laugh. Which on reflection was the correct response.

In a Chinese restaurant in Snaresbrook after a game. Steve Lomas, his wife and his agent were at the next table. Mr Agent was loudly cunting off Paolo (who'd not had the best of games that day) and Steve was agreeing. Until he looked over and saw me, in a claret top, avidly listening.
